Goal

The primary goal of this program is to educate for professional practice in the field of Latin American an Caribbean Studies. The curriculum has been developed in response to the changing needs of the city and state and reflects the recommendations of former students, practitioner, and agency administrators in the field of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. This program has been designed for the purpose of increasing the number of Latino, bilingual professionals, with the values, skills and knowledge necessary for academic and professional leadership in the area of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Specifically, the program will create professionals with special competencies in the humanities and social sciences, and trained in the study of the social, economic, and political development of the Spanish speaking nations of Latin America and the Caribbean basin.

Completion of a minimum of 8 credits and 2 sets of instructional modules including:

LAC14782 History of Latin America and Caribbean (Pre-Colombia Period)
Colloquium
Completion of a minimum of 6 credits in 2 colloquia are required including:
LAC24782 Modern Caribbean Narrative 1950 to Present P.R./Cuba/D.R.
LAC25582 Dictatorships in the Latin American and Caribbean Novel
Thesis
*Thesis or Final Project—8 credits
Experiential Studies
Completion of a minimum of 6 credits, including 90 hours of supervised Internships
