Goal
Realizing the importance of human institutions and professionals for the Latino community, Boricua College created the Human Services Program. Self-help, and the sharing of resources among members of the extended family, the Barrio, and the community is a strong cultural tradition of Puerto Ricans, Caribbeans and other Latinos. These cultural strengths, together with language, have enabled Latinos to survive in the modern urban environment. The Bachelor of Science degree program in Human Services is designed to prepare students for professional degrees by building on these strengths and has the following objectives:
Objectives
- to provide Puerto Ricans and other Latinos with the professional skills, knowledge, and values necessary to realize their personal aspirations in the field of Human Services.
- to train individuals who can become humanistic professionals committed to serving Latinos and other less fortunate communities, and are knowledgeable about the structure and function of urban resource systems, and skilled in facilitating interaction between populations and those resource systems and
- to enable students to achieve a Bachelor of Science degree, opening the door to further professional training in the field of Human Services.
