Goal

The Bachelor of Science degree program in Childhood Education is designed to address the need for elementary school teachers who are bilingual. The College trains its childhood education teachers as Facilitators of Learning who approach children as total human beings, and the center of the educational agenda. It prepares bilingual students to work as teachers of kindergarten through sixth grade, and provides a foundation for further professional training in the field of education and/or educational administration.

Requires a minimum of 16 credits in at least Five sets of instructional modules including:

Colloquium
Requires a minimum of 15 credits in at least Five colloquia are including:

Experiential Studies
Requires a minimum of fifteen credits in workshops and 330 hours in classroom teaching; school observation.

Note: Bilingual Extension

Students may add the Bilingual Certification to the B.S. degree in Childhood Education by an additional 10 credits that include the following courses: Spanish Composition I and II, Puerto Rican History I, Teaching Reading to Bilingual Students in 1st and 2nd Language, Foundations of Bilingual Education, Practicum V: Curriculum Lab in Bilingual Education, Linguistics.
